It's important to keep in mind that... sometimes, it doesn't matter what you do - it's the wrong thing.
Sometimes you have a choice - your happiness, or the happiness of someone else. It can be tempting to "take the moral high road" and choose the happiness of the other person, after all this usually avoids conflict and is the path of least resistance.
But, don't discount your own needs. My experience has tended to be that denying your own happiness for the happiness of others will not lead to long term happiness. Quite the opposite.
It may feel selfish, but if faced with this choice... the correct answer should be obvious. Be selfish.
